'Alternative Selection', our music-focused concept that centers around one of our DGTL artists creating a podcast in a genre they don’t usually perform or produce. The uniqueness of the Alternative Selection podcast series lies between the combination of unconventional pairings of artist and genre. This way we hope to contribute to diversity in sound by showcasing a different side to your favorite artist.
The 6th artist to partake in the series and stun us with her eclectic selections is Adriana Lopez, the Bogota-born, Barcelona-based producer, DJ, and label head of Grey Report. After her thrilling performances at DGTL Madrid and DGTL Barcelona, we are very excited to see what she will create. To get the story behind her (alternative) selections, we passed along a few questions:
Q. Hi Adriana, great to have you on the series! Could you start by describing in what style, genre, or sound you normally play for the readers?
A. Hi, thanks for the invite. I normally play techno.
Q. How would you describe the sound of your Alternative Selection mix and why did you choose this genre?
A. It’s a 175 BPM mix. I used to play drum & bass and dubstep years ago -under the alias Suut- so it was a perfect opportunity to explore this facet again.
Q. What is something you liked about creating in a style other than your own? How was it to experiment with a style outside your comfort zone?
A. This is a style that I find fun to play and recording this mix brought back good memories of those times. Maybe I should do this more often.
Q. Could you tell us something about the selected tracks?
A. I went digging in my collection for some old records and mixed them with new material. It’s a selection of tracks that goes from deep to a more aggressive and straightforward sound.
