London-born DJ, label founder, and producer Sherelle has earned widespread praise for her high-octane sets which blend footwork, jungle, breakbeat hardcore, and other dance styles above 160 beats per minute. She had been active for several years before her popularity exploded in early 2019, when she was featured on an infamous Boiler Room set, which led to a massive increase in bookings, including a BBC Radio 1 residency.

One of several aliases used by Paul Woolford, Special Request was inspired by the breakbeat techno, drum’n’bass, and other underground dance music forms the DJ and producer encountered on pirate radio stations in his native U.K. The project followed several white label 12″ singles with an acclaimed full-length debut, 2013’s Soul Music, released by Houndstooth. While generally continuing to produce club-based material, the project has occasionally branched out on releases like 2017’s cinematic, experimental Belief System, but others like 2019’s Vortex focus on tear-out hardcore.
