DGTL is the first festival to use Augmented Reality for the floorplan and time-table.
With the help of various sensors, visitors can determine all relevant locations: the stages, toilets, bars, art and sustainability projects. They can also find the route back to the ferry by waving around their phones. On the other hand, this offers a new, artistic experience for visitors.
The virtual world puts an aesthetic layer over the festival and gives access to the very first 3D Augmented Reality artwork ever at a festival. This ‘floats’ above the IJ river, halfway between the ferry connection between Central Station and the new ferry dock at the festival site.

The App raises questions about mobile phone use at the festival. It also gives a glimpse into the future, in which it becomes possible to add visual experiences in the 'real world' with experiences in the virtual world. Is the festival of the future partly to be experienced in a digital environment?
