UPDATE CORONAVIRUS – DATED 10 MARCH 2020
As Apenkooi Events B.V. we are closely following the developments regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). We are also in close contact with specialised authorities and partners, such as the RIVM (the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment), GGD (Joint Health Service), the government and the various municipalities, including the Municipality of Amsterdam, in order to take timely precautionary measures and avoid risks. In doing so, we follow the advice of the government and municipalities with regard to whether or not events should go ahead. In addition, we use the guidelines of the RIVM and the GGD as a starting point for precautionary measures to be taken during our events. The wellbeing and safety of all those involved is of paramount importance to us.
All events of Apenkooi Events B.V. ̶ such as Strafwerk, Studio Festivale ̶ or companies affiliated with Apenkooi Events such as DGTL, Pleinvrees, By the Creek and The Gardens of Babylon will continue as planned, unless otherwise decided and communicated by us or the organizing party concerned.
The Mayor of Amsterdam, Mrs Halsema, has informed us by letter dated 4 March that she sees no reason to cancel events for the time being. As of 10 March, Apenkooi Events has not been informed of any changes in relation to this advice and the precautions taken with regard to the coronavirus.
We advise all those involved, including visitors, volunteers, employees and suppliers, to follow the guidelines and advice of the RIVM and the GGD with respect to hygiene requirements during our events. These requirements apply to all viruses that can cause flu and colds.
In addition, we ask all visitors, employees, volunteers and suppliers to check the current state of affairs with regard to travel advice and the guidelines ensuing therefrom at all times.
We take the following precautions at our events:
•Hand sanitizers are present at all entrances and in public areas;
•Additional first aid posts are open during events. First aid personnel are instructed in recognizing the symptoms of the virus and know how to deal with possible cases of illness;
•Closest attention is given to cleaning;
•Through various means, additional attention is devoted to following the general hygiene rules.

DGTL has set the goal to become the world’s first zero-waste festival. Based on the principles of a circular economy, we treat all festival “waste” as valuable resources instead, and therefore separate and index all incoming and outgoing materials. This means that we have replaced all traditional trash bins with our new RCP’s (Resource Collection Points). All your used resources (plastics, organics/compostables, and other materials) can be deposited in the RCP’s to be recycled or reused on- and offsite. Together, we can set an example for sustainability and become the greenest festival in the world.
