Urine contains phosphate, an increasingly scarce fertilizer. Expected natural resources of phosphate will be exhausted in 30 years. Without phosphate you can not grow any crop and therefore, given the growing world population, very important to think about recycling our resources. Since 2013 Waternet is recycling phosphate from sewage water in a special factory in Amsterdam West. With the amount of phosphate from the wastewater of Amsterdam 10,000 football fields can be fertilized every year. At DGTL festival we are launching this innovation by collecting the urine and recycle the phosphate from DGTL festival.
