Breakbeat, electro, and percussive experimentalism: Ambu Bambu will take you on a bouncy journey through electronic broken rhythms with musical nods to their Chinese heritage.
Ambu Bambu moved to Groningen for her studies in Artificial Intelligence, where she found her love for electronics in more ways than one. After spending some years exploring the local electronic music scene and listening to many DJs, she learned how to mix tracks herself.
With lots of enthusiasm, she took it upon herself to share her sound with the world mostly through online radio stations. At first in Groningen, where she has become a regular name at Relate Radio, and later also in cities like Utrecht, Amsterdam, Enschede, Nijmegen, and Budapest. Now, she’s also started making appearances at club nights, where the shadowy dance floors provide the perfect platform for her moody yet groovy tunes.
Her sound is all about switching, combining, and blending genres, while always keeping up the pace. The fundaments of her sets rely heavily on ravey breakbeat and gloomy electro, while incorporating elements like tongue-in-cheek lyrics, acid synths, polyrhythms, glitchy sounds, bubbling basslines, and melodies reminiscent of the Chinese songs she grew up on. These different aspects all come together in an energetic, rhythmic, and highly danceable melting pot.
